All students received an email at their school email account yesterday which gave instructions on how to login to G-Suite.
Students can access their email with their regular school username and password here. If you have forgotten your username and password send an email with your name, form and date of birth to data hws.
We will continue to update this webpage today and this week. Please click here for the letter from Mr Ashman on our online resources to support students and families whilst Highgate Wood School is closed.
Children will be at home, rather than school, waiting for the current crisis to resolve. We are hopeful that most of our students will be able to use much of their time at home productively, working on the tasks that have been set on Show My Homework and making use of Sam Learning.
But we know that this will be a challenge. In the coming days we will providing guidance to both students and their families about how it is best for them to work at home.
We will be recommending that they structure their day, almost like their timetable in school. Every day they should spend time on their school work, revising what they already know and tackling the new work that has been set.
On both the mobile and main version of this website we are now assembling online resources. Currently we are focussed on giving access to resources to support mental health.
We know this is a stressful and extraordinary time and just making ourselves ready to learn is probably the biggest challenge most of us will face.
But over the coming days these resources will be expanded and developed so all school subjects will be covered for all years.
We have started to email all students with details of the different systems available to them, this includes login details to GSuite , the collection of educational applications from Google.
We anticipate that we will be making significant use of this in the days to come. Can students please make sure they login to their email regularly this week?
If any student has difficulty logging into their school email they should request those details in an email from any other account that gives their name, form and date of birth.
Please make that request to data hws. Later today we will be informing parents of students on Free School Meals how they will receive vouchers to enable them to continue having some support.
We will also be writing to all parents about our plans for online support and learning going forward. Over this weekend we will continue to update this site with information on the response to Covid This will include informing families on Free School Meals of the arrangements we will be putting in place, the systems for making schooling available for the children of Key Critical workers and vulnerable children who are not able to remain at home, and the provision for online learning we are developing going forward.
This will go to their school email accounts. Students who have forgotten their login details for their school email account should contact data hws.
Ofqual and the Department for Education has now released fuller details on the arrangements that will be put in place for awarding examination grades this year.
Click here for their announcement. Please click here for a letter from Craig Hewitt, Deputy Headteacher, providing some news and giving an overview of our current plans.
More information will be posted on this page shortly. Click here for that survey. We continue with our plan to be open tomorrow for all except Years 8 and 9.
Please remember we are always able to supervise students in school if their family circumstances make that necessary, irrespective of whether they are in a year group that is not in school.
This is particularly true for the children of key workers — now being referred to as critical workers — and children with special educational needs.
Last night the government released additional guidance for parents on Closure of educational settings. Currently there is no additional information on the solution to cancelling the summer exams, but some news is expected later today.
We will update this site as soon as we are able. In the meantime we ask that students and families remain confident that they will not be disadvantaged because of the current situation.
We will update this page during today and over the weekend so families have a clearer idea about what the coming weeks may hold. With thanks for your continued support covid hws.
We will again plan be open tomorrow for Years 7, 10, 11 and post We do appreciate that this week has been hard on Years 8 and 9 and we have received representations from students in that group asking if it could be possible to attend before the school closes for an indefinite period.
We would have loved to accommodate you but the circumstances made that impossible. You will be guaranteed a very warm welcome back to your classes when this crisis is over, as will the students of every other year group.
We have just sent out a survey to all families to learn who are Key Workers. In the governments programme to tackle COVID19 schools will be closed from tomorrow afternoon to most students, but will still be available for vulnerable children and also the children of Key Workers.
Can every family please fill this in so we can help plan the provision. Many thanks to Year 11 for their work during the mocks today.
We are well aware of the anxieties around the cancellation of the summer exams and spoke to the students about that today.
As soon as we know more we will pass it on. For the moment we simply ask students and their families to be confident that everyone — the government, the exam boards, the schools and the teachers — are all committed to making sure the current circumstances do not disadvantage you.
Ordinarily we would now be thinking of the yearbook, dress-up day and celebration evening. These things will still happen, but we will have to be a bit more creative than usual.
But you have already proved yourself to be the most amazing year group! Planning for whatever we do will have to start on-line.
Please submit your ideas and suggestions to classof hws. We are asking that Year 11 do not think of using the last day of mocks for any sort of celebration.
Regrettably, in the current circumstances, it is just not appropriate. Just come in regular school uniform as if it were a normal exam day.
We will find opportunities for photographs and celebrations after Easter. Posted We are still awaiting confirmation from the government on what this entails, but we will need to move quickly once that is know.
We would be grateful if you could respond swiftly to the survey when it is sent. We will continue with our plan for a partial closure today. Year 8s and 9s will continue to be at home.
We do hope that Year 11s will still want to sit their mock papers. Ofqual, the exams regular, have welcomed the decision not to hold exams this summer click here but sitting a mock is still a useful experience.
It gives students a chance to show off the knowledge and understanding they have built up and also helps show where more work might be required.
For the remainder of this week we will be continuing with the partial closure of the school with Year 8s and 9s being asked to remain at home.
We would like to stress that we are always able to supervise students in school if their family circumstances make that necessary, irrespective of whether they are in a year group that is not in school.
This is particularly true for the children of key workers and children with special educational needs. We will be continuing with our mock exams this week.
We know students have been working hard for them and it is important that they are given the opportunity to demonstrate this.
But we can assure all our students that we are fully confident that neither GCSE nor A Level candidates will be disadvantaged by the current circumstances.
We are still awaiting clarification of what this means and will post updates on this website as soon as possible. The government has posted updated guidance for households with possible coronavirus infections.
The day period starts from the day when the first person in the house became ill. We will continue with our partial school closure today with students in Years 8 and 9 again being asked to stay at home.
Please read the message posted yesterday evening for more details,. We anticipate that tomorrow, Wednesday 18th March, will mean another partial school closure.
The school will again be closed to students in Years 8 and 9. We hope to retain normal running of the school for other years, though may ask Year 11s to go home after their mock exams.
This is due to staff absences which are higher than normal for this time of year because of the new guidance requiring a 14 day period of self-isolation if anyone in the household shows either of the two symptoms associated with Covid19 — a high temperature or a persistent new cough.
We are currently assembling resources for remote learning. We hope to start making these available on line from tomorrow Wednesday.
If you have any issues with logging in please email. We are making provisional plans for the school day tomorrow, Tuesday 18th March. We are currently assembling resources for remote learning and hope to be able to provide an update for this work, and also giving more details about plans for tomorrow, at this evening.
We have had a number of calls from parents saying that their child feels better and will be able to return to school in a day or two.
Please be aware that this can not happen. This means if your child, or any member of the household develops a persistent cough or has a high temperature then everyone in the household must isolate themselves for 14 days.
It is more than likely that the cough or the temperature subsides before the two weeks are up, but that does not mean anyone should return to school or work before that time elapses.
Because of teacher absence and the uncertainty of being able to get supply teachers to cover lessons we are asking students in Year 8 and Year 9 to stay at home today.
We will also be asking Year 11 students to go home after their second mock examination this morning, except for History, Drama, Art, Food and MFL students who will be supported by their teachers in covering key parts of the syllabus and revision planning.
If any student in Year 8 or Year 9 is unable to stay safely at home today we will be able to accommodate them within school. A great deal of our focus today will be on collating resources to support remote learning for students who are being asked to be at home as well as those who are required to self-isolate.
We will continue to update this page through the course of today with news of any developments or updates. Because the number of teachers needing to self-isolate has grown overnight we are less confident that we will be able to keep the school open to all year groups.
We will be able to confirm the situation by am when we will post another update on this site. In the event of a partial closure it is likely that this will be restricted to students Year 9 or Year 8 or both year groups.
Should there be a need to be a partial closure of the school we will make arrangements so that students who are not able to stay at home can still be in school irrespective of whether their year group is involved in a partial closure.
Earlier this morning the government issued new guidance for households with possible COVID infection. Please click here to view. P osted at So you are aware of our contingency plans, in the event of a partial closure it is likely that this will be restricted to students Year 9 or Year 8 or both year groups.
Some of the key points are below. The full guidance can be accessed here. We are requesting all staff to confirm this evening whether this will mean they are required to self-isolate.
Once we know those numbers we will be able to make a judgement on whether school will be running normally tomorrow. We will provide more details through an update this page at today Monday 15th March.
Wearing gloves is not an adequate barrier to transmission, especially if the gloves are not changed and very, very regular intervals.
It also could lead to them not washing their hands frequently. We are therefore discouraging the practice. Cllr Zane Brabazon, Deputy Leader of Haringey Council, has today sent a letter to Gavin Williamson MP, Secretary of State for Education requesting more support for schools to combat coronavirus and support staff, students, schools and families in managing the current situation.
You can read that letter here. Today at am updated guidance for educational settings was produced by the government. You can read that here.
We are planning to run school entirely as normal today. With the new guidance to self-isolate if you have the symptom of a new persistent cough or a high temperature there will be some staff absences.
There always is at this time of year, but now this will be more acute as they will be required to be away from school for seven days rather than until recovery.
It is important to be aware that staff absence does not mean anything more worrying than a regular cold or flu. Should there be other cause for concern we will not hesitate in letting families know.
It would be helpful if students had a hand sanitiser but we very aware that these are now extremely difficult to find.
Washing with soap and water is better anyway! We are in the process of assembling resources for home study for those students who do need to self-isolate but are otherwise healthy enough to work and study.
We hope to have these in place early this week. We anticipate updates from the government on the actions school should be taking during the course of today.
We do not anticipate any change in direction, but except there will be clarification of some aspects of the action plan.
Undoubtedly this will raise some levels of anxiety but it should not cause alarm. The numbers of positive test results in Haringey is still fairly low 9.
Neverthless, our thoughts are with those at Fortismere for whom this will be a cause for concern as well as a significant disruption. The government has stressed that schools should do what they can to stay open, but also emphasise that people should stay at home for seven days if they develop a high temperature or new continuous cough.
Health Secretary Matt Hancock has announced today. This follows the news on 12th March when the government announced we are moving out of the contain phase and into delay in response to the coronavirus outbreak.
This means they want people to stay at home and avoid all but essential contact with others for 7 days from the point of displaying mild symptoms, to slow the spread of infection.
You do not need to call NHS to go into self-isolation. If your symptoms worsen during home isolation or are no better after 7 days contact NHS online at If you have no internet access, you should call NHS For a medical emergency dial The current plans remain that schools will remain open and students should continue to assume the summer exams will carry on as normal.
We will keep parents and carers fully informed. We will update this page as regularly as possible. A lot of these actions are contained in the letter we distributed on the letter of 12th March.
With the new guidance please be aware that we are advising any student or member of staff who has a high temperature above They do not need to phone , though they should do if they feel particularly unwell or have particular concerns about their symptoms.
The school will routinely authorise this absence using a Y code once we have been notified. If there are any concerns around this authorisation you will be informed.
